What is Metal Forming?

At Emsea, we are well known throughout the UK for the quality of our metal forming services and our industry-leading forming equipment, but what is forming?

Metal forming is the process of fashioning metal parts through mechanical deformation; the parts are reshaped without adding or removing material, with its overall mass remains unchanged. In essence, forming operates on the same science principle of plastic deformation, where the physical shape of a material is permanently deformed.

Metal Forming falls into the following characteristics:

  • Compressive Forming such as rolling, extrusion, die forming and indenting
  • Tensile Forming – including stretching, expanding and recessing
  • Bending
  • Shearing

At Emsea, our full-service approachensures that we can guide you through each and every step of the forming process – from the conception and ideas through to the manufacture and deliver. Forming can be one part of a project which may include laser cuttingor waterjet cutting. With these processes also available on-site, Emsea provides the facility to ensure your complete project can be offered from one source.
